LG KP501 Cookie

LG KP501 Cookie is by far the cheapest touch screen telephone with a list of brilliant facilities. This phone is just 106.5 mm long, 55.4 mm wide and 12 mm thick. Weight is too compact by just 89 grams. Cookie is one of the most thinly and light phone with touch screen. Can you keep with no problems in your pocket. LG Cookie is available in white with black, silver, pink, and green.
LG has opted for a large display with good resolution. It is a 3-inch TFT, which offers a 240 x 400 pixels resolution of and 256k colors. Brightness and contrast are very good and colors are alive.
Although the phone is made completely of plastic, it looks very firm and gives the feeling of quality. There are not components that creak, the battery cover is very sealed, has no spiel at all. Quality structure makes you suppose the phone is classier than in reality.
The front part of the screen is roofed by 3 inches screen and the LG logo at the top, as speaker. Under the screen is only three buttons. This is utilized to answer/rejected calls and entrance the menu. In the right side is the microSD card slot that support up to 16 GB, which is protected with a lid of soft plastic to prevent dust and other impurities. Below is the button keyboard lock and related camera key.
In the left side is volume control key. This key also controls the camera zoom, when it started. Here is the port for connecting accessories (Handsfree, data cable). It is covered with a plastic cap, as if the SD slot. The phone is also a place where you can sling hand strap.
As you facility better navigation in menus, Cookie has stylus. Be masked in this case the phone and you can remove in the lower right corner. Also in the bottom is the microphone. At the top is not any button or slot. The rear side is occupied by the camera lens 3 megapixels placed in the left corner. Camera has no flash, which means that you will not be capable to shoot in reduced light conditions.
The beat burst clicking in the center marked. The battery is a Li-Ion 900 mAh and is. As a moderate user, I will give autonomy of about 2 days. According to the producer, should you hold any 14 days in stand-by and 3 hours and 30 minutes of uninterrupted talk. If you use excessively, sure you load every day. LG KP501 Cookie is not a smartphone, no OS like Symbian or Windows Mobile. Are still a proprietary operating system LG, which is optimized for touch screen. Graphical interface is prepared in Flash and is similar to that of Renoir KC910 phone.
Graphical interface looks very good, with lots of animations and transition effects. It responds quickly to commands, we not detect any delay. Support widgets, which you can add quick and simple. Here we saw a very interesting effect. If you do not align perfectly widgets, it is enough to agitate little a phone and, using accelerometer, Cookie, will feel the movement and will automatically align. Most useful widgets are analog clock, FM radio, music player, writing pad, the slideshow of pictures, a clock that shows time in many places around the world and a calendar.
Agenda is restricted to 1000 contacts. You can add a lot of information for each. You can organize in groups and for each of the contacts you can add a picture and a ringtone. If a person to add date of birth details, the phone automatically creates an event in the calendar, which will announce the time. Contacts can be displayed both on phone or SIM card.
In the bottom of the main screen, there is a bar with four shortcuts. The first one opens alphanumeric keypad for dialing phone numbers, the two go to the history of calls received / made, the third open shortcut messages, and the fourth order quick go in the phone menu. The menu is simple and well organized, so you quickly get used to it. After you hit the key fast you go in the menu, you will notice that it is in turn divided into four categories. The first category offers access to communication and messaging (call history, contacts, messages, and e-mail), two groups of multimedia applications (gallery, camera, music, FM radio, games). A third category includes applications for time management (calendar, alarm, organizer), and several other applications, including web browser. The last category is dedicated to setting up the phone.
Owing to accelerometer, you can easily switch screen mode in panoramic portrait and vice versa. You can use both in panoramic when writing messages, and you follow a video. The phone is multitasking, so you can run multiple Java applications simultaneously. You can even alternate between them using Task Manager.
Numeric keys can be assigned functions speed dial. If you clicked on more than one key, you can call a certain phone number.
Chapter messages Cookie sit well, whether you need to send SMS, MMS or email. You use the virtual QWERTY keyboard. This is only available in landscape mode. If you phone in portrait mode, you will only alphanumeric keypad. I felt much more accurate and faster to use the stylus. I thought the interesting position of recognition of handwriting. Although I do not think I would be much faster if I write it, I did some tests and I can say that the phone has not had too many errors of recognition.
Email client is easily configured and used. Although not too advanced functions, lets you quickly check the type of email POP3 / IMAP / SMTP.
The phone has only 50 MB of internal memory, so you really need a memory card to your songs or put a few movies. Fortunately, you can put a microSD card of up to 16 GB.
Gallery of images is optimized for the touch screen phone. Switching from one image to another is nice.
Music player looks and moves well. Player is like ordinary phones from LG, but is optimized for touch screen. I was happy to find graphic equalizer. Songs can be sorted by artist, genre or title. Player has a menu where you can see the last song you listened. It also can run in background so that you can do anything with the phone in the meantime. It is time to revolt once again against Apple, which claims that their phone is capable of multitasking, because it would consume the battery too quickly. Even with the music player's Cookie in the background, you can control it from the widget on your screen. Speakerphone is excellent.
Video player is not anything special. Unfortunately, does not support DivX or Xvid files. Are still customers of You Tube, so even those movies you can look right. You can watch the video in both portrait and panoramic. I do not think I need to tell you how to see well. You can make Screenshots during playback of a video that are saved as files in your phone.
FM radio can replace the music player, if you left without songs or you tired of those they have in memory. The radio has RDS, so you name the job is displayed. The phone can store up to 50 posts. The radio does not work without headphones, which are designed antenna. As the music, player and it can run in background and can be controlled via a widget on the main screen.
Camera is only 3 megapixels. No big deal, but keep in mind that it is a cheap phone. Unfortunately, the camera has no flash and you cannot change focus. Pictures made are quite weak, especially if you do not have enough light. No application control camera and not too many settings. Video resolution is at 320 x 240 pixels with 12 fps.
Cookie does not have 3G or WiFi. Speed Internet surfing is pretty weak. Yet phone has USB and Bluetooth, which you can connect to a PC or handsfree. Bluetooth supports the A2DP, so you can listen to some music stereo wireless headphones.
Considering the fact that LG KP501 does not have Symbian, Windows Mobile or other operating system for smartphones, I hoped that even standard applications to make work well, that does not need to install it more. Offer Java applications are quite rich, but not as rich as the applications Symbian or Windows Mobile. Fortunately, the phone comes with many good and useful applications.
The organizer has a nice interface and offers many opportunities for management time. Calendar is simple; the events can be viewed at the day, week or month. You may add up to 500 task links. In addition, you can have up to five alarms active simultaneously.
I liked to see the phone has an application that can read Office files (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and PDF.
