Nokia E61

Nokia's E61 is the email oriented member of the new Nokia Eseries of devices designed for enterprise business. It assumes the traditional "Blackberry" form factor, and as a Series 60 3rd Edition device, it runs the new Symbian v9.1 operating system. The QWERTY keyboard equipped E60 was designed to provide a great email experience for its user, due to its keyboard and varied push email support that includes: BlackBerry Connect, GoodLink, Nokia Business Center, Seven Mobile Mail, Seven Always-On Mail, and Visto Mobile. The E61's multitasking abilities means that you can send and receive email while you are in the middle of a phone call.

Its large 320x240, 16M color TFT display should make reading email a dream, and an offline mode will allow you to read and compose those email messages while the GSM/WCDMA radio is off, avoiding problems in airplanes. The E61 has about 75MB of internal storage memory available, and can have more storage added through its miniSD memory card slot (64MB card included). The E61 also has support for many corporate VPN systems, and can link up with Microsoft's ActiveSync for IMAP4/POP3/SMTP email, as well as Contacts and Calendar synchronization.

The SIP based VOIP client allows the E61 to hook into compatible WiFi based PBX systems and act as a normal office extension, supporting all of the same features and dialing modes of a regular office phone - including 4 digit extension dialing. OMA DM compatibility means that IT managers can control where their company's data goes, and protect it from prying eyes. The over the air management capability let's IT managers do things such as wipe the data from the phone, or lock the phone all from a remote location.

On top of the voice and email connectivity features, the E61 comes with Yahoo, AIM, and OMA IM clients. Bluetooth v1.2 support includes the Synchronization profile, and IR and USB connectivity are also available. Bluetooth, IR, USB, and WiFi (802.11i/e/g) connections can all be used at the same time, and the Bluetooth system can support up to 6 simultaneous connections.

The E61 comes complete with viewers and editors for most of the common Microsoft Office document types and includes such features as a hands free speakerphone, a MP3/AAC music player, and vibration alarm.

The Nokia E61 is a quadband GSM device (850/900/1800/1900Mhz) that also supports the 2100Mhz WCDMA/UMTS band. It weighs 144g (5.1oz) and measures 117mm x 69.7mm x 14mm (4.6" x 2.7" x .55") in size. The 1500mAh battery should be good for 4 to 7 hours of GSM talk time, or 9 to 11 days of GSM standby time.

The E61 email device should be available in Q1 of 2006.

I enjoy using the applications on this phone like word documents, presentation, and adobe pdf software. It meets all my daily needs. Also, I have the wonderful blue tooth to beam away files to and from my Nokia E61. I njoy the easy to use designate a task feature to a a prticular soft key! Also the OWN feature which allows you to select tis feature and go in any direction to access any tool you designate. That was my main reason for getting the Nokia E62. It has been an awesome phone, and you can customize this phone to meet your personal needs. Don't forget the key lock feature for accidental dialing on your phone.Hey! You can even customize your desk top background on your Nokia E61. You have a music player and real player application to use for your music needs. This is just an all around great phone! No wi-fi...but it's all good for me. You also get the data cable and charger to your Nokia E62 and CD install PC suite. It's a great buy! Wana know what's even great..if you get a Cingular internet deal to get on unlimited anytime and anywhere..how cool is that? Try it out. It's worth it! Very Nice Phone!! I have no complaints. It also has a voice aid feature to call out the time and other applications you use. What a cool phone! It has a symbian Os computer. Great phone!

The screen is large, bright and has very good color support and resolution. The calendar app is a breeze to work with on this screen, for a basic month view is laid out clearly and is easy to read. When a specific date is highlighted by the cursor, a summary pop-up of all tasks and appts appears on the screen. I haven't seen any support for color-codes for appts like on the Palm TX/Treo 680 and Apple iCal, but this isn't a big deal for me. Alarms can be set to sound(or vibrate) before specific appts and show up quite well on the screen. The To-Do listing of due tasks is very easy to read and reliable and the Notes app is terrific for general post-it messages like grocery list items.
